What Is the Support Role?

Conquest of Azeroth introduces a dedicated Support role alongside Tank, Healer, and DPS — the first official Support role in a WoW-style MMO from Project Ascension. Support specs empower your group: rallying allies with buffs, mitigating damage, snaring enemies, and dealing damage while making the entire team more effective.

Support is not a replacement for healers. Healers restore health; Support amplifies damage, reduces incoming harm, and controls battlefield flow. Ideal groups often run one healer plus one Support in dungeon and raid comps.

All Support Specializations

Each Support spec has a distinct fantasy and toolkit:

• Guardian — Inspiration: Battle bard placing banners, singing war songs, and bolstering group morale and power.
• Ranger — Farstrider: War falcons and hunting horns buffing allies from range.
• Stormbringer — Winds: Air Elemental grows stronger in combat, buffing allies while damaging foes.
• Barbarian — Ancestry: Vrykul ancestor buffs and ale-sharing celebrations for group bonuses.
• Tinker — Invention: Effect beacons, nanobots, and healing gun support for purge and patch utility.
• Starcaller — Sentinel: Hybrid ranged DPS/healer with warsaber mounted combat and astral buffs.

Support in Group Content

Dungeon leaders value Support for trash packs and long boss fights where sustained buffs multiply healer and DPS output. Support players should track buff uptime, position banners for melee stacks, and weave damage abilities between support cooldowns.

In PvP, Support specs excel in battlegrounds — Farstrider horn buffs and Inspiration songs turn skirmishes. Arena Support is niche but viable in double-DPS comps needing utility.
