Ranger Class Overview

Complete Ranger guide for Conquest of Azeroth — Archery, Brigand, Farstrider specs, Bushcraft mechanics, leveling tips, talents, and group roles.

Class Identity

Rangers are scouts and brigands of the wilderness with bushcraft survival skills. Archery peppers foes from afar with quiver-modified arrows, Brigand ambushes with poisons and dirty tricks, and Farstrider supports allies with war falcons and hunting horns. Farstrider represents CoA's new Support role category.

Wilderness outlaw proficient with bow and blade, allied with war falcons and hunting horns.

Ranger wears Leather armor and uses Focus as its primary resource. The Bushcraft mechanic defines how you manage power: Rangers use bushcraft skills — quiver types, camp sites, and war falcons — to hunt and support allies.

Specializations at Level 10

At level 10, Ranger players choose one of 3 specializations. Each opens a dedicated spec talent tree alongside the shared class tree. Respec is available at trainers but costs gold — commit thoughtfully for your first ten levels.

  • Archery: Dedicated long-range archer using Quiver abilities to modify damage with excellent mobility.
  • Brigand: Ambush bandit assaulting with brutal melee, poisons, and dirty tricks from civilization's edge.
  • Farstrider: Support spec calling War Falcons and blowing hunting horns to buff allies — a CoA Support role.

Strengths, Weaknesses, and Best Content

Understanding where this class excels helps you pick content and group roles efficiently.

  • Strength: Archery familiar hunter gameplay
  • Strength: Brigand strong melee ambush
  • Strength: Farstrider unique Support role
  • Weakness: Focus and quiver management
  • Weakness: Brigand lower range than Archery
  • Weakness: Farstrider needs group for full value
  • Leveling: Archery is the premier solo leveling spec with quiver flexibility. Switch quiver types for different mob types — poison for armored elites, swift for casters. Farstrider shines in dungeon groups.
  • PvP: Archery consistent ranged pressure in arena with quiver swaps mid-fight. Farstrider horn buffs enhance battleground team performance.

Talent Trees and Ability Essences

Dual talent trees unlock at level 10: a Ranger class tree for identity mechanics and a spec tree for your chosen path. At level 30, Ability Essences add build-defining modifications — prioritize essence nodes that amplify your spec's core rotation before generic utility.

Use the Talent Calculator to plan endgame layouts, or enable in-game Auto-Build for a guided first pass. See the Talent System guide and Ability Essences guide for full details.
